Tree saplings given out in Smithers for Earth Day

Coast Mountain College in Smithers gave out 350 tree saplings on Tuesday to celebrate Earth Day.

This is the first time they have done something like this with the idea coming from their Environmental Sustainability Commitee.

“We were considering the things we could do for our students to help bring awareness, for our community, and giving back,” said Campus Manager Dawn McConnell.

They were delivered around town on foot with some recipients remembering previous times when they planted saplings.

“In addition to walking around the community, we also had students from Muhiem help us assemble the trees and so we sent some trees home with them and some students from St. Joseph’s,” said McConnell.

She hopes the college will do a similar activity next year with the idea to distribute sachets containing local flower seeds.
