The new Ksyen Regional Hospital in Terrace opened on Sunday to replace the former Mills Memorial Hospital.
The new facility includes 82 beds, private rooms, a bigger emergency department space, six stretcher bays, pediatric care space and four operating rooms.
The project cost $633 million which was paid for by Northern Health, the province, and the Northwest Regional Hospital District.
Work is also underway to upgrade the hospital to a Level 3 trauma centre from Level 4 to support communities in northwestern B.C. by providing immediate assessment, resuscitation, surgery and intensive care.
Work by the province continues to build or upgrade 30 hospitals or health facilities, 11 long-term care centres and four cancer centres.
This includes the Bulkley Valley District Hospital in Smithers.
