About 375 people (nearly twice as many as last year) hit Tyhee Lake Sunday for the annual Father’s Day Fishing Derby.
This coincided with the province’s free fishing weekend which allows families to try the sport without needing a license.
“I thought what a perfect opportunity and got ahold of Go Fish BC, BC Parks, and we were able to put this amazing event on,” said Organizer Michelle Finch.
This is the second year the event ran, featuring a BBQ, prizes, fishing lessons, and a chance to learn about the water ecosystem.
The largest fish caught was a rainbow trout and it was 26 inches long, beating last year’s longest by two inches.
“Next year, we’re going even bigger. We want more people involved, more groups. If we can get lots in here, we will,” said Finch.
