Long standing Smithers firefighter retires after 37 years

After 37 years on the force, Captain Stephen Graf is retiring from the firefighter post.

The announcement was made today (Thursday) by the Smithers Volunteer Fire Department on Facebook.

“Even on his last day he participated in training because that is the type of person/leader he is, he leads by example,” the department said in their post.

Along with firefighting, Graf helped to raise over $1 million for Muscular Dystrophy with the department.

“Captain Graf we hope you enjoy many uninterrupted nights without a radio going off and the coffee is always on at the fire hall.”
