School district 54 will be holding their monthly board meeting this evening.
Members of the public are invited to the Moricetown Multi-plex in Witset for 7PM.
Highlights of the agenda include:
- A response from Rob Fleming, Minister of Education regarding a new strategic plan for Aboriginal Students,
- A Rural Education Enhancement Fund Letter also from the Ministry of Education,
- And a letter from Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction about a poverty reduction strategy.

- SD 54 has 21 scholarships that are now available to apply for.
- Ms. Kirsten Froese was announced as Vice-Principal of BVEC starting August 1st,2018.
- SD 54 teachers Sandra McAulay, Melanie Anderson and Mary Neto presented a report about the impact of innovative learning environments on students engagement and performance.
- Field trip approval for Grade 6-7 students from Silverthorne Elementary School to travel to the Nass Valley.
- Field trip approval for Grade 10-12 Outdoor Ed students from Smithers Secondary to travel to Haida Gwaii for west coast rainforest exploration and to learn about First Nations.
