6.5% is the new jobless rate in British Columbia according to Stats Canada.
The unemployment rate for the province went up despite having the fastest growth rate among all provinces at 3.2% which equates to 72,000 more people working.
Despite the jump in unemployment, B.C. still fared better than the national numbers.
“Year-over-year basis in Canada employment grew only 0.7 which is considerably weaker than British Columbia, that represents 130,000 more people working and the unemployment rate was 7.1% this March.”
In the northern capital of Prince George, 46,000 people were working last month which is the same figure from a year ago.
The jobless rate there went up to 5.7% compared to the 4.5% a year prior.
