A new four-plex and six-plex in Witset are complete with a second six-plex nearing completion.
This was funded through the Canada Morgage and Housing Corporation’s Rapid Housing Initiative to the tune of about $10 million.
“I’m pretty excited and happy,” said Housing Manager Donna van Tunen.
“We’re not quite done yet but we’re close. I’m happy for our tenants and our community.”
Tenants have started to move in with the four-plex, with three of the two six-plex units still available.
The units have a solar electricity generation system with battery backup and heat pumps.
“One of our big things was we wanted to bring an affordable, high quality, energy efficient product to Indigenous communities,” said Paradigm CEO Philipp Gruner.
Construction started in April last year with the goal to finish construction by Christmas.
Each unit has three bedrooms and two bathrooms with ground floor level apartments in the six-plex being wheelchair accessible.
The under-construction six-plex will be complete by May 2nd.
