The end of ski and snowboard season is this weekend on Hudson Bay Mountain which they’re celebrating with their annual Schnai Dai.
This year’s theme is swords and sorcery with participants encouraged to wear their medieval costumes.
Previously, the event activities were held on Sunday, but this year they have been split to include Saturday.
“On Saturday, we’ve got the costume contest, a treasure hunt, Smithers Brewing Company beer garden and BBQ, slush cup, and music from Interstellar Jays,” said General Manager Lex Rei-Jones.
The treasure hunt will continue Sunday, with face painting, a tube joust, and a cavalry charge also planned.
While this is the end of the mountain’s regular season, they are looking to hold a bonus weekend April 19th and 20th with others dependent on snow conditions.
“We are into spring conditions, but the basin of snow is holding up pretty well,” said Rei-Jones.
“You will see some dirt mixed in with the snow, but we don’t have the creeks opening or a lot of rocks showing up.”
This mirrors the start of the season where a pre-season weekend was held, because there was significant snowfall in November.
Rei-Jones added this year was one to remember because of the favourable conditions, a busy Christmas season, and hosting the U14 Provincial Ski championships.
In August, they will be running their chair lift on weekends for their mountain-top BBQ.
