Smithers RCMP were called to a dispute near Witset on Friday morning (March 29th) at 7:00.
Police said one neighbour alleged the other’s dog attacked an animal on their property.
A shot was fired, killing the dog, before the armed neighbour returned to their residence.
Attempts to have the individual exit their home were unsuccessful, prompting police to contain the residence.
Out of caution, Highway 16 from Trout Creek to Witset was closed to all traffic and the Emergency Response Team was called.
Two people were later arrested, and the highway reopened.
Investigations remain ongoing, and no further information is available.
