Nearly a quarter of Canadians are immigrants.
The latest release of data from the 2021 census data shows immigration now makes up the largest portion of the population since Confederation.
Statistics Canada says it is the main driver of population growth in Canada because of the aging population and low fertility rates.
It is predicted that by 2041 immigrants will represent a third of people.
In the past, the majority of immigrants came to Canada from Europe, now the majority come from Asia including the Middle East.
Other census data released today (Wednesday) shows half of Canadians report a Christian faith but more than one-third say they have no religious affiliation, which has doubled in the last 20 years.
