The Smithers Fire Department responded to a house fire last evening that resulted in the home being destroyed.
It caught fire shortly before 6 p.m.
According to Fire Chief Kelly Zacharias, Telus phone lines were down so they had to dispatch themselves internally after fire crews noticed the fire.
He added this resulted in the possibility of taking longer to respond.
23 firefighters were on the scene of the fire and five pieces of apparatus responded to the fire.
Zacharias said that the two occupants inside of the home got out safely.
The cause is under investigation.
