17 groups from across the province join the search for Frances Brown

Search efforts have been ramped up for 53-year-old Frances Brown who went missing in the backcountry near Moricetown on Saturday.

The RCMP say Brown was separated from her cousin while mushroom picking in the Kitseguecla Lake Rd. area and didn’t return to the vehicle.

Brown is described as Aboriginal, 5 foot 8 inches tall, 119 pounds with long brown/grey hair and brown eyes and is also believed to be hard of hearing.

Chris Mushumanski, Media Liasion with the search, says they have 55 volunteers made up of 17 search and rescue groups from across the province joining the effort.

“They’ve had a couple of clues located; one was a fire pit where some branches were laid out indicating a direction of travel,” says Mushumanski.

“The tracks are a challenge. There are other mushroom pickers in the area and so it is more difficult to conclude whether or not they are related to Frances. Given that we have so many search and rescue people in the area, each clue is being looked at as carefully and quickly as possible.”

Mushumanski also says the clouds today may make things difficult for the RCMP helicopter.

PEP Air from Smithers and the RCMP search dog have also joined in the search.
